Being Thankful for Simple food

The Prophet (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam) as an Ordinary man

Being Thankful for Simple Food

The companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) were keen to give us a full picture of the Prophet's actions, practices and habits, knowing that this is all part of the guidance he was sent to deliver. They realized that some of his actions were no more than a personal approach and that we have free choice in these. Nevertheless, they wanted to transmit a full picture of his behavior. They realized that even in personal matters, his choices were good ones. God made his nature always inclining toward what is good and beneficial. Moreover, they told us how they behaved in his presence in order to transmit a picture of what life was like in the community he established, which was fundamentally different from the tribal society that prevailed in Arabia before the advent of Islam.

Jabir ibn Abdullah reports: "When we had a meal with the Prophet, we would not start unless he was the first to start." (Related by Ahmad, Al-Hakim and Abu Al-Shaikh). This Hadith tells us of the good manners of the Prophet's companions and the respect they showed to the Prophet. They might be hungry and the food is placed before them, but they would not touch it until he started. Indeed, this sort of manners continued to be practiced in the Muslim community. Children would not start eating before their parents, particularly when they are grown up. When some people are having a dinner, the most distinguished personality is normally the one to start. When he begins to take food into his plate, others would follow.

During the Prophet's lifetime, the Arabs normally ate with their hands. They did not have the sort of cutlery we use nowadays. They held a piece of bread in their fingers and scooped some food to lift it to their mouths, eating it with the piece of bread. Some of the sauce or the fat might stick to their fingers during the meal. Hence, it is important to wash one's hands before eating. People also wiped or washed their hands after the meal. The Prophet's companions told us how he ate. Thus, Kaab ibn Malik tells us: "The Prophet used to eat his food using three fingers. He did not wipe his hand until he had licked it." (Related by Ahmad, Muslim, Abu Dawood and Al-Tirmidhi) . There are other Hadiths confirming this practice. Anas reports: "When the Prophet had finished eating, he would lick his three fingers." (Related by Ahmad, Muslim, Abu Dawood and Al-Tirmidhi)

Kaab ibn Ujrah reports: "I saw the Prophet eating with his three fingers, his thumb, the one next to it and the middle finger, and I saw him licking his three fingers before wiping them." (Related by Abu Al-Shaykh, Al-Tabarani and Ibn Saad).

These Hadiths give us a picture of a proper approach to food. Using three fingers means that one scoops a small amount. This is better than using one's whole hand, taking a rather large piece of bread and lifting more of the food in one bite. People who do that show an unsightly appearance, with their mouths being too full, like gluttons. On the other hand, licking one's fingers is another aspect of being grateful to God for providing us with the food we need to survive. It means that we do not wash away or waste any portion of food, however small.

The Prophet's food was always very simple. It was placed on the floor, and no elaborate means were used to give it a refined taste. This is clear from the following Hadiths : Anas ibn Malik reports: "The Prophet never ate at a high table, nor did he eat in small plates. Never was thin bread baked for him." Someone asked: "On what did they serve their food, then?" The answer was: "On mats placed on the floor." (Related by Ahmad, Al-Bukhari, Al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah). This Hadith shows how simple the Prophet's life was. He could have had all the luxuries he wanted, but he never looked for any standard higher than what was easily affordable by ordinary people in his community.

Anas said: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) never ate thinly baked bread; nor did he eat of a sheep whose hair was removed by boiling water ." (Related by Ahmad, Al-Bukhari and Ibn Majah). Such elaborate preparations were not used in cooking the Prophet's food. He preferred a simple life, with no refinements. This does not mean that he did not like what was comfortable, or refined or tasty. His approach was that whatever was easily available and simply prepared, giving no trouble to anyone, was good enough for him.

Sahl ibn Saad, a companion of the Prophet, was asked by Abu Hazim whether the Prophet ate bread made with refined flour. He answered: "The Prophet never saw refined flour from the day God sent him with His message to the day when God gathered his soul." Abu Hazim asked: "Did you have sieves during the Prophet's lifetime?" He said: "Never did the Prophet see a sieve from the first day of his mission to the day when God gathered his soul." Abu Hazim asked: "How did you, then, eat barley without using sieves (to remove the outer skin and dirt)?" He said: "We used to grind it and blow the dirt away. Much of that was blown off, and we then used water to remove more before we prepared it to eat." (Related by Ahmad, Al-Bukhari, Al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah).

Such a simple and contented approach to food needs no comment from us. While we enjoy a great variety of foods today, with fruits and other products brought from all over the world to make everything available in all seasons, we need to show our gratitude to God for blessing us with such plenty. We must never forget that many millions of people hardly find enough to eat. Many suffer from poor diet and from famine. We must always remember this, thank God for what He has given us and ensure that we try our best to relieve the suffering of those who do not have enough. Otherwise we will be questioned by God and we have to account to Him for our failure to help those in need of help.

O ALLAH, Alhamdulillah We are grateful for your grace and blessings on us and make us more grateful ever. I am praying for the whole mankind to understand your grace, food and blessings and be thankful for it.

Fee Amanillah,

Rasulullah(SAW) said:

'When a man dies and his relatives are busy in funeral, there stands an extremely handsome man by his head. When the dead body is shrouded, that man gets in between the shroud and the chest of the deceased.

When after the burial, the people return home, 2 angels, Munkar and Nakeer (names of two special Angels), come in the grave and try to separate this handsome man so that they may be able to interrogate the dead man in privacy about his faith. But the handsome man says,

'He is my companion, he is my friend. I will not leave him alone in any case. If you are appointed for interrogation, do your job. I cannot leave him until I get him admitted into Paradise'.

Thereafter he turns to his dead companion and says, 'I am the Qura'an, which you used to read, sometimes in a loud voice and sometimes in a low voice. Do not worry. After the interrogation of Munkar and Naker, you will have no grief. When the interrogation is over, the handsome man arranges for him from Al-Mala'ul A'laa (the angels in Heaven) silk bedding filled with musk.

Rasulullah(SAW) said:

'On the Day of Judgement, before Allah, no other intercessor will have a greater status than the Qura'an'

May Allah bestow His favour on all of us, AMEEN

Fasting in Shabaan

Fasting in Shabaan
compiled by Imran Ayub

1.1 It is Mustahabb (recommended) to fast a great deal in the month of Shabaan

Narrated Aaishah (may Allah be pleased with her): "Allahs Apostle (peace be upon him) used to fast till one would say that he would never stop fasting, and he would abandon fasting till one would say that he would never fast. I never saw Allah's Apostle fasting for a whole month except the month of Ramadan, and did not see him fasting in any month more than in the month of Shabaan."[1]

1.2 The Reason for Fasting so much in Shabaan

Narrated Usaamah ibn Zayd (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: "I said, O Messenger of Allaah (peace be upon him), I do not see you fasting in any month more than in Shabaan.

He said, That is a month concerning which many people are heedless, between Rajab and Ramadaan. It is the month is which peoples deeds are taken up to the Lord of the Worlds, and I would like my deeds to be taken up whilst I am fasting.'"[2]

1.3 After the Half of Shabaan

Narrated Aboo Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "When Shabaan is half over, do not fast."[3]

Sheikh  Ibn 'Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: "Even if the hadeeth is Saheeh, the prohibition in it does not mean that this is Haraam, rather it is simply makrooh (disliked), as some of the scholars have understood it to mean. But whoever has the habit of fasting regularly should fast, even if it is after halfway through Sha'baan."[4]

1.4 Fasting the day of doubt

Narrated Aboo Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "None of you should fast a day or two before the month of Ramadan unless he has the habit of fasting (Nawafil) (and if his fasting coincides with that day) then he can fast that day."

Some Beautiful Hadith

Three important and beneficial things

1) Hazrat Muhammad s.a.w.(PBUH) says that

"if a person recite " Ayatal Kursi" after every Farz
Namaz then there will be nothing between him and Heaven except Death"

2) There is a Hadith that says

"La Haula Wala Quuata illa billahil aliyul azeem"

is such a great medicine that it cures  every disease and the most minor disease it cures is "Sorrow" (Gham).

3) Another  Hadith says

"if a person recite surah ikhlaas ( Khul huwallahu ahad...) 10 times in a day then Allah build a palace for him in the Heaven. (Subhaan Allah)"

and the last but not the least Allah says " spread the knowledge whatever u have ...Its duty of each n every musalman"

May Allah accepts our deeds...Aamin

Balance in Islam

Balance in Islam

The number of times the word man appears in the Holy Qur'an is 24 and number of times the word woman appears is also 24, therefore not only is this phrase correct in the grammatical sense but also true mathematically i.e. 24=24

The words mentioned number of times in Arabic Holy Qur'an Dunia (one name for life) 115. Aakhirat (one name for the life after this world) 115

Malaika (Angels) 88 . Shayteen (Satan) 88

Life 145 .... Death 145

Benefit 50 . Corrupt 50

People 50 .. Messengers 50

Eblees (king of devils) 11 . Seek refuge from Eblees 11

Museebah (calamity) 75 . Thanks 75

Spending (Sadaqah) 73 . Satisfaction 73

People who are mislead 17 . Dead people 17

Muslimeen 41 . Jihad 41

Gold 8 . Easy life 8

Magic 60 . Fitnah (dissuasion, misleading) 60

Zakat (Taxes Muslims pay to the poor) 32 .

Barakah (Increasing or blessings of wealth) 32

Mind 49 . Noor 49

Tongue 25 . Sermon 25

Desite 8 . Fear 8

Speaking publicly 18 . Publicising 18

Hardship 114 .... Patience 114

Muhammed 4 . Sharee'ah (Muhammed's teachings) 4

Man 24 . Woman 24

Some more facts:

And amazingly enough have a look how many times the following words appear:

Salat 5 , Month 12, Day 365 ,

Sea 32, Land 13

Sea + land = 32 +13 = 45

Sea = 32/45*100  = 71.11111111%

Land = 13/45*100 = 28.88888889%

Sea + land =  100%

Modern science has only recently proved that the water covers 71.111% of the earth,

while the land covers 28.889%.

Is this a coincidence? Question is that Who taught Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) all this?

None other than ALMIGHTY ALLAH taught him.

Lailatul Qadr

Lailatul Qadr (Night of Power)

Lailatul Qadr (Night of Power)

There is night in the month of Ramadhan which is better than a thousand months (83 years, 4 months). This night is called Laitatul Qadr.

According to Hadith, this night occurs during the last ten days of Ramadhan on one of the odd numbered nights. Usually it is celebrated on the 27th night of this holy month. It is a night of great importance and enormous blessings for Muslims.

A night such as Lailatul Qadr was not granted to any religious community (Ummah) before Muslims. Only the Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) were favoured with a night of huge reward. Once reason, it  was granted, was to enable Muslims to equal the worship of any people who lived before us. In the distant past it is said that people lived very long lives of hundreds of years. We, today, live much shorter lives. And so Allah gave us Laitatul Qadr to enable us to do as much worship as a man who lived even hundreds of years longer. If in a lifetime, you only worshipped on Lailatul Qadr ten times, you would have equaled in those ten nights 833 years of worship.

Signs of Laitul Qadr

·         There are some signs that reveal which night is Laitatul Qadr.

·         The night will be peaceful, neither hot nor cold, with a clear moon shinning but with no rays.

·         There will be no shooting stars in the night

·         At sunrise the sun will rise as just a disc without and radiant beams of light.

·         One companion of the Prophet reported that on Laitatul Qadr he tasted sea water and it was sweet.
